Welcome to my website.

My name is Taylor Silverstein, and I am an independent investor with a particular interest in startups, emerging technologies and businesses seeking to challenge established industries.

I created this website to document my investment journey and share my interest in business, technology and financial markets. The companies I have personally backed are brought together on Silverstein, my investment website.

Every company has a story. Behind every product, service or technological breakthrough are people taking risks, solving problems and working to turn an idea into a functioning business. Investing gives me the opportunity to participate in those journeys, however small my individual shareholding may be.

My websites are where I intend to document them.

Why I invest

My interest in investing extends beyond the financial performance of an individual company. I am interested in understanding how businesses develop, how entrepreneurs overcome challenges and how new technologies can transform entire industries.

I particularly enjoy discovering businesses during their earlier stages, when their ambitions are substantial but their future remains uncertain.

Of course, investing involves risk. Not every business will succeed, not every investment will generate a return, and some companies may ultimately cease trading. These possibilities are an unavoidable part of investing in private businesses.

I believe there is value in documenting the entire experience, including the investments that do not perform as originally anticipated.

My investment portfolio

The portfolio section on Silverstein provides a record of the companies I have backed using my own money.

It brings together investments made through Crowdcube, Republic Europe and StartEngine, alongside any relevant direct shareholdings, allowing visitors to explore the businesses I have supported in one place.

Each company profile is intended to provide useful information about the business, including its leadership, shareholding, investment stage and official website, where those details are available.

The portfolio includes active investments, pending positions and archived holdings. Companies that have been sold, closed or otherwise exited will remain part of the historical record.

I want the portfolio to represent my actual investment journey, rather than presenting only its successful moments.

Transparency and performance

Transparency is an important principle behind my websites.

Silverstein keeps active holdings, pending allocations and archived investments distinct. Company details and share quantities are presented where the available record supports them.

A company’s valuation and the value of my personal shareholding are two very different figures. The estimated value of an underlying business does not represent the value of my shares, the amount I have invested or money available to me.

The current website does not publish combined company valuations or a personal portfolio performance total. Missing investment amounts, valuations, returns and gains or losses are left unpublished rather than estimated.

My intention is to present information clearly, distinguish between company information and personal holdings, and maintain a useful record as the portfolio develops.

More than an investment portfolio

Although my investments form an important part of my interests, I intend for this website to become a broader platform for them.

I will be publishing articles covering financial markets, technology, business developments, emerging industries and the wider startup ecosystem.

I am particularly interested in the relationship between innovation and investment: how new ideas attract capital, how companies scale their operations and how technological developments influence the global economy.

This blog will provide a place to explore those subjects, document significant developments and share my own observations.

As my interests and investments develop, so will the subjects covered here.

Looking towards the future

Investing is a long-term journey, and the businesses I support today may look very different in five or ten years.

Some may expand internationally, introduce new products or enter new markets. Others may be acquired, change direction or cease operating altogether.

Whatever happens, I want my websites to remain an accurate record of the companies I have backed and the experiences I have gained along the way.

I also hope they will provide an interesting resource for anyone who shares my enthusiasm for entrepreneurship, technology and the development of private businesses.

This is the beginning of a much longer journey, and I look forward to documenting it here.

Thank you for visiting and welcome to Taylor Silverstein.
